Mum loved to dress up. She’d pleat her sarees to perfection and wear pearls or gold. And yes, her trademark brooch. Today, as we celebrated her around the world, we did so too. We dressed in what could be called our Sunday best!
Mum loved flowers, so begoñas, hortensias and gladioli were bought for her. And yes, a single long-stemmed rose.
She loved to cook and feed the locality, so each of us made her something she would enjoy.
We had Seekh kebabs, Chicken with parmesan cheese kebabs, Tandoori chicken, Matar Pulao and Goan prawn curry.
I tried to make a salad like she would… (failed totally… lol)
Later we made little savoury pastries with philadephia cheese and mussels.
We didn’t make dessert, but had dark chocolate instead.
She told her neighbour that she wanted 40 candles to be lit for her soul. 40 candles were lit. And then more.
She loved music. So we played music for her. You are my sunshine, Danny boy, Search of the rose.
She loved to dance, so we put on her favourite numbers and danced.
You were so full of life ma. And even now, you give us the best of times.
