Hairy Tales

It’s been a long time since I told the story about the people I met. Today gave me a reason.

I had an amazing hairstylist. Karina. She was just 34 when she fainted one day while at work. A month later she passed on. I miss her. Not just for the great hairstyles she gave me, but because she was kind and a great listener. She gave great advice and at times I shared more with her than with my family. Karina was the real deal. She always wanted to visit India and we made plans to do it the following year. It was always the following year. I so wish I had the chance to take her.

For years I tried to find a new stylist. I went to 3 in the vicinity. Unfortunately they were too afraid to experiment. Boring Spanish styles are all I got.

Then I found Aravan. Their instagram account. Some very old photos, but the colour work was fabulous. For weeks I tried calling – no answer. I even went around once, but it looked like it shutdown. Just before a trip to the UK in May, I said let’s give it a go… the phone was answered, an appointment was made and I found myself there one Friday afternoon.

The rest like they say, is history.

Vanesa gave me one of the best colour jobs I’ve ever had. She loves my hair and is very chatty too, but not the boring kind.

I finally went for curtain bangs and more colour in the front, but it didn’t come out too well. She asked me to come back. I went. Instead of an hour, she spent 3.5 hours on me. I left looking like how my soul feels… joyous! And she didn’t let me pay. She just wanted this done because she didn’t feel she did a good enough job the first time around. I love this lady. Sevillana with just a bit of an accent. Hair like Cruella De Ville. And a heart of gold. I’m so glad that I have a chance to meet and know such a lovely person!
